Beauty Pink and Blue Card

Beauty Pink and Blue Card
Today I would like to show you a new technique I tried out. I will be posting two examples using this method: Beauty Pink and Blue Card and Thank You Embossed Card. The technique that I tried for the first time is embossing. I purchased a watermark pen, embossing powder, and an heating gun. If I had more time, I would love to post a quick video, so I will try later. This technique is relatively simple and amazing to watch. My latest card features the word Beauty. I wrote the word on vellum paper and covered the wet ink with black embossing powder. I shook off the excess and then used the heating gun to melt the powder. I might have overheated a little because small bubbles appeared in a few spots. The heating gun gets real hot real fast. I using an xacto knife to cut around the word, however I did not cut out the center of the B, so you may see that in the photos. Other than that, I adhered it to my card that I decorated with lovely flowers and faux pearls.
Lots of photos! Take a look below.

Love Heart Card

Love Heart Card
For today, I made a Love Card that features a chipwood die-cut that spells out the word love with a heart for the letter o. So, I tried two different strategies this time. 1- I tried to use opposite colors with the cardstock and 2- I tried to add lace to tie the card together with a bow. My results: The colors did not necessarily clash, but I ended up using more black and pink than blue. I wanted to use blue and pink but ended up going a different route. I had seen an awesome example of pink flowers on a blue card, but obviously this did not happen. And, I cut the lace too short and used a wide lace in which I could not tie the bow at all. This was my first attempt at adding lace for the purpose of closing up the card.

Zebra Fun Card

Zebra Fun Card
For today, the card example I am going to show you is a little different. This type of card is specifically designed for children and hopefully sheds a little knowledge on them. I like to think of fun ways to teach my kids about things especially when it comes to zoology. That is the best part about biology, which is my job. Inside the card I created a rhyming poem about Zebras - you may laugh, giggle, or cry - but I think it is sufficient to get the point across about the fun and beautiful Zebras! I always like to have a positive attitude and, of course, be funny or a little sarcastic. Children should have fun when learning. When they enjoy learning, their self-esteem builds.
Take a look below and hope you like it! I hope it puts a smile on your face. Once again, I am not ashamed to be a little nerdy. *haha*

Zebra Fun Card Poem
Zebras are social.
Zebras are nice.
Zebras are mammals,
with black and white stripes.

They belong to the horse family,
and sleep standing up,
during an attack,
they like to huddle up.

They form a circle,
to care for the young.
The male stallion will ward off,
the threat of wild dogs.

Zebras have four gaits.
And zebras eat grass.
A zonkey is a hybrid,
between a zebra and an ass.

Zebras are not domesticated,
but horses are.
While zebras stand out,
like a bright twinkling star.

A zebra's ears,
will tell you its mood.
Straight up is happy,
backwards is rude.

An amazing creature,
A Zebra sure is,
an amniotic tetrapod,
full of magic and bliss.

Happy Birthday Blue Card

Happy Birthday Blue Card
Today, I tried another Happy Birthday Card but a little different this time. Of course, I still used paper flowers, but I have been seeing new examples around numerous blogs and wanted to go out of my comfort zone. I am learning and transitioning using different techniques, so thank you all for awesome ideas.

I used two different tones of blue and cut the lighter blue paper smaller than the card. I never do this, so this small step was actually very new to me. I always use mulberry paper flowers. I probably will never stray away from this but I did use something different - my leaves. I bought a leaf vine punch out and used those instead of my mulberry paper leaves. And, I couldn't find any extra happy birthday stickers, so I handwrote happy birthday in a black marker and outlined the left sides with a navy blue ball point pen.
